The Bach Effect explores the influence of Johann Sebastian Bach on each year’s Festival theme. This year, Bach will be heard through the lens of Finland and Hungary in an event that will feature works by Kodaly, Sibelius, Dohnányi and Goldmark. 2015 Composer-in-Residence Ilari Kaila’s Preludio and Toccata for solo piano will be performed and Jazz pianist phenomenon Adam Birnbaum will bring the program to close with a set of original Bach arrangements in collaboration with celebrated Finnish Jazz drummer Olavi Louhivuori.

Featuring works by Bach, Dohnányi, Goldmark, Kaila, Kodaly, Kurtág, Namoradze, Salmenhaara, Sibelius. Performers include Adam Birnbaum, Mike Dahlberg, Amy Galluzzo, Emil Holmström, Tessa Lark, Angela Lee, Lisa Lee, Melinda Lee Masur, Olavi Louhivuori, Derek Mosloff, Nicolas Namoradze, Alex Shiozaki.
