Friday, June 12th

7:30pm | Canoe Studios | 601 West 26th Street, 14th Floor | $68 | Curated Gala Reception

The Chelsea Music Festival’s Opening Night Gala sparkles atop the Hudson with an evening to Hear | Taste | See the sounds of Finland and Hungary. Sibelius, Rautavaara and the World Premiere of “Cameo” by 2015 Composer-in-Residence Ilari Kaila will be performed. Bartók’s early, romantic Piano Quintet closes the program as a sweeping piece that showcases his late romantic influences even as he is forming the new language he would later introduce to New York audiences later in his life. 2015 Visual Artist-in-Residence Rachel Mica Weiss will reveal her site-specific installation and a tasting menu of wild, foraged Finnish cuisine created by 2015 Culinary Artist-in-Residence Sami Tallberg concludes this not-to-be-missed gala evening.

Works by Sibelius, Kaila, Rautavaara, & Bartók.
